Ideas Man

A true tale of sheer ruddy persistence.

Sheridan Simove wittily unfolds a number of his creative endeavors, detailing the rock bottom lows, knock backs, and often successes of bringing to life his eureka moments.
With a stand out chapter detailing his endeavors as a thirty something masquerading as a midlands schoolboy, baggy trousers and all, the book is an inspirational read, guaranteed to leave you feeling creative.

Simove undoubtedly proves “action is the foundational key to all success”.

To find out more about the book and a number of Simove's other ventures visit his Talent Shed.

Taxi keeps tramps warm and dry.

"In 2007, TAXI celebrated 15 years of success. To mark the occasion, they wanted a big idea, one that would give back to the community." So they invented a jacket, but this was no ordinary jacket it had lots of pockets. Now thats what we call a big idea.

Ok so there was a little more to it.

"The jacket would be breathable, waterproof, lightweight, and the lining would be made up of pockets throughout. And these pockets would be able to be stuffed with newspaper to provide adjustable levels of insulation from the cold."

We're shocked at just how good a jacket stuffed with newspaper can actually look, let alone work.
There is a site dedicated to the jacket 15belowproject.org where you can get a load more info on the jacket, you can even see it being tested in a humongous freezer.

Our only problem is if you aren't a homeless man/woman sleeping on a sidewalk in America somewhere, you don't seem to be able to get your hands on one. Wouldn't they be great for the weight conscious backpacker or festival goer, we recon they would be an autumn essential here in the UK.

Skip This

Oliver Bishop Young has turned simple skips into an amazing array of structures. With property prices falling what better way to create that little bit of extra room.

You could even have that pool you always dreamt of.

The recent graduate from Goldsmiths University is also working on an ingenious site. Members of the public are invited to make most of all the humble skips in their town: www.skipwaste.org.uk

-Dezeen Design Magazine also have a few nice words to say about this clever gent here.

Stuff Your Doodle

The personalized stuffed figures made at stuffyourdoodle are 100% brilliant! You send them a 'doodle', then they create a stuffed toy out of it. Want one?!

Here are a few examples (we enjoyed the kids drawings best...)

Don't be afraid of sending in your more 'advanced' doodles - but beware, the price might start to change a little...

Barnaby Barford's porcelain figuries

'Oh God, Oh God, Margaret Thatcher naked on a cold day, Margaret Thatcher naked on a cold day', Barnaby Barford, 2007

Salads! I'll give them fucking salads!', Barnaby Barford, 2007

Artist Barnaby Barford, winner of the Wallpaper Best Young Designer award back in 2004 is showing his wonderfully crafted, ironic and often humorous creations currently at David Gill Galleries London.
With titles such as 'Nobody Fucking Move', 'You Sexy Bitch', and 'Struggling Will Only Make It Worse' they may not be suitable for your nan's bits'n'bobs shelf. To see more of Barfords mantelpiece masterpieces check out Wallpaper magazines article.

Jar Tops

Selection of Jar Tops designed by Jorre van Ast.

"By screwing on plastic tops, these readily available jars are turned into vessels with a specific function. A generic jar is transformed into kitchenware, creating more practical and emotional value. The family includes a sugar pot, milk jug, chocolate sprinkler, oil&vinegar set and a water jug."
- Jorre van Ast.

Seems like a great asset to anyones kitchen. Though maybe not in house of this angry blogger: "What's the point of saving jars to reuse them if you are going to throw out the perfectly usable lids and replace them with something else? I thought the point of reuse was to REDUCE our consumption, not to create a market for yet more products."

Surely it's just a brilliant idea? & perhaps a bit less rusty than holding onto the original metal cap..

Walk Along Glider

Tyler MacCready shows how he can use his head to fly a paper aeroplane. Completely controlled by the air your body moves in, this gliding toy seems like a trick at first.

Some tips - 1, 2 - for building your own.

Brief Safe

We don't trust hotel safes, if the staff all have access to the keys how are they "safe". Those pesky buggers are the ones that are most likely to rummage around and nick your holiday cash anyway. On a resent trip to Prague we both took to ingeniously hiding wads of cash in balled up socks, right there on the floor. However then we saw these bad boys, no one, and we mean no one is gonna touch these!!

"Items can be hidden right under their noses with these specially-designed briefs which contain a fly-accessed 4" x 10" secret compartment with Velcro closure and "special markings" on the lower rear portion."
Purchase a pair here, alternatively make your own, like we did.

Fragiles: Porcelain, Glass & Ceramics

Maxim Velcovsky's, "Little Joseph" is a very different type of candle holder, we assume as the wax builds up Little Joseph slowly grows hair. However when using white candles (as in this picture), some might think it looks like something entirely different.
Fragiles: Porcelain, Glass & Ceramics Exhibition at Design Miami.
A beautiful collection of little works of art for the home.

An annual report that has to be cooked first.

Well Done: a food company annual report that has to be cooked first.
A very D&AD idea.

Dave Werner

First you see the viral, then you see the site.

He seems to have the geek sheik down to a T. The videos on his site really give you a deep insight into the projects and something we are working on with our site. A great refreshing approach to a portfolio site.

Puchi Puchi

puchipuchi_bubble_wrap.jpg
PUCHI PUCHI is a hendheld electronic toy that, when squeezed, makes this bubblewrap popping sound.
Funny:

“Once in every 100 squeezes of an air bubble, instead of emitting a “pop”, the noise will be replaced by the sound of a fart or a woman moaning in ecstasy. “
How’s that for a gift idea?!
